May is Mental Health Month, and we at MHAMD are looking forward to a busy month of activities. Next week is Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week. We are also recognizing Older Americans Month with a series of activities throughout Maryland. Over the last few years, MHAMD has established many traditions related to Mental Health Month and Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week.
One tradition is an annual flash mob at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, focused on mental health awareness. The flash mob is organized by the Youth Lab at UMBC. It’s part of a day-long series of activities that also includes a student panel discussion on mental health.
The April 30 flash mob served as an early kick-off for Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, which is May 5-11.
Samanatha Redman, a graduate student at the Youth Lab, talks about her role in putting together this year’s flash mob and its impact.
We invite you to follow us on Twitter and Facebook to keep updated on everything going on throughout May. Or come back to our blog. It’s going to be a great month.
