Maryland Parity Project recently filed an individual complaint with the Maryland Insurance Administration to protest a limit on outpatient mental health visits imposed by an insurer operating in Maryland’s small group market. This limit has been removed. According to the policyholder we were working with, she recently received an updated benefits booklet and the limit on outpatient mental health benefits has been removed.
Insurers in the small group market are required to offer the Comprehensive Standard Health Benefit Plan (CSHBP) and adhere to its requirements. The CSHBP mandates unlimited medically necessary outpatient mental health visits.
Bringing attention to insurance practices that are not compliant with law is the most effective mechanism we have to realize change. If you believe you have been treated unfairly by an insurer, please consider filing a complaint or Contact Us to help you.
