It’s Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week in Maryland. This weeklong campaign will raise awareness of the importance of children’s mental health. And it’s already off to a great start.
Last week, on the UMBC campus, the week unofficially launched with a flash mob focused on mental health awareness. Below Dr. Jason Schiffman talks about the university’s mental health awareness flash mob and his thoughts on mental health awareness.
And, here’s the flash mob in action!
The campus also hosted a panel discussion lead by UMBC students, who shared their inspiring stories on navigating college while experiencing mental health challenges.
With this fantastic start, we now launch into a week full of activities across the state, including today’s Celebrating Through Art: The First Lady’s Mental Health Awareness Youth Art Display in Annapolis. To learn about this event and others happening this week, go here.
In fact, more than 650 organizations, schools and agencies throughout the state are celebrating Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week through activities and outreach efforts.
For instance our friends at the Howard County Office of Children and Families have created a page with various activities parents and children can participate in to learn more about mental health.
There is a lot going on this week, so please follow us on Facebook and Twitter to stay up-to-date on the latest news. You can also follow along using #CMHMMaryland. (Note: If you are posting about any activities you are conducting this week, please use this tag in your post!)
