ACEs & Parenting Through Modern Trauma with Dr. Aaron Weiner

To recognize Suicide Prevention Month, thanks to our partnership with the Maryland Department of Health’s Behavioral Health Administration, MHAMD invites parents, educators, and community members to join us for this valuable, no-cost presentation.

We have lived through unprecedented times, and our children have thus unfortunately been required to shoulder the burden of unprecedented levels of stress. Recent events have driven a surge of anxiety and depression in teens across the county – as parents and caregivers, understanding how to guide your children through this difficult period can be a tremendous relief. We invite you to join Dr. Aaron Weiner for an overview of how traumatic events can impact a child’s mental health trajectory, including a deep understanding of the psychological and physiological underpinnings of trauma-based stress reactions, as well as actions parents and caregivers can take today to help their children heal and flourish.

During this presentation you will learn:

  • The psychological impact of modern traumas
  • Strategies to help shape the feelings and behavior of teens who are struggling with anxiety and stress related to modern traumas they cannot control or avoid
  • Specific strategies to help your teen deescalate if they are reactive and acting out due to anxiety or stress
